And unfortunately in real life every so often.

Sin isn't so much doing bad things - its having your heart in this place and the action is a consequence of the heart. The power of love is the rescue and the savior and is demonstrated in Christ; so that when we believe in Him and His death on the cross and His resurrection - we are saved from this and are adopted by God and our loathing turns to eternal joy!!
